About us
About Our School
A school that has been part of Penghu life since the nineteenth century — and is still changing with every generation of children who walk through its gates.
The oldest school on the islands
Magong Elementary School is a public elementary school in Magong City, the administrative and cultural centre of Penghu County — an archipelago of some ninety islands in the Taiwan Strait.
We are the first elementary school established in the county, and the source of elementary education across the city. From the Japanese colonial period onward, nine schools have been founded either directly or indirectly from our campus: Wude, Shanshui, Shili, Shiquan, Xingren, Dongwei, Wenao, Fenggui, Hujing, Tongpan, Zhongxing and Zhongzheng among them.
For that reason people in Penghu call us two things: the oldest elementary school in Penghu County, and the mother school of Magong's elementary schools.

Our home on Mingyuan Road
The school moved to its present site in 1933, after two earlier relocations in its first three decades.

Mastery · Gusto · Empathy · Sustainability
Our educational philosophy, in one line: teach children the competencies to learn, to survive, to live well, and to love and get along with others.
Children are the core
Every plan begins with the question of what a child in front of us actually needs — not what is easiest to administer.
Teachers are the backbone
Happy, professional teachers make a good school. We invest in their growth and protect their time to teach.
Families are partners
Parents who are actively involved in learning are one of the school's greatest assets, and we build our programmes around them.

A message from the Principal
I believe the essence of education is to help a person become a person. Children sit at the centre of that work, and teachers form its backbone. When both are well supported, a school takes care of itself.
At Magong Elementary we are working towards excellent administration, a rich and varied curriculum and professional teaching staff — alongside comprehensive pastoral care, open communication, and the space for each child's own talent to be recognised and developed.
