Welcome

Welcome

A small island school with a wide horizon

Magong Elementary School sits in the heart of Magong City, a few minutes' walk from the harbour and the historic temples of Penghu. We began in 1899 as Magong Public School, and every other elementary school in the city can trace its roots back to our campus.

Being an island school shapes how we teach. Our children learn about the ocean that surrounds them, the basalt and coral that built their houses, and the languages that connect their small archipelago to a very large world.

  • Bilingual instruction in selected subjects since 2021
  • Designated a 5G Smart Learning Benchmark School in 2023
  • Home of the Penghu Indigenous Peoples Education Resource Center
  • Specialist classes in Music, Dance and Special Education

Our vision

Mastery · Gusto · Empathy · Sustainability

Four words guide every lesson we plan and every decision we make.

💡

Mastery

Children who ask their own questions, work at them, and get good at something they chose themselves.

⚡

Gusto

Sport, music, dance and play — a healthy body carries a curious mind.

🤝

Empathy

Every child is known by name. Nobody is left at the edge of the playground.

🌱

Sustainability

Learning to look after the islands, the ocean and each other — for a long time to come.

What makes us different

Four things we are proud of

Programmes our teachers built themselves, tested in real classrooms, and keep improving.

Bilingual

Free Talk with our foreign teachers

Every week, children spend their break chatting in English with our foreign teachers about a themed topic — and collect learning points as they go. No textbook, no grades, just real conversation.

Literacy

Tomorrow English Reading

An illustrated audiobook programme that pairs English picture books with recordings by our own students, so beginners hear familiar voices reading to them.

Festivals

Festivals children actually take part in

Halloween costumes made from recycled materials, Christmas carolling in English, and an international education quest that sends children exploring the whole campus with tablets.

Hands-on

Science Week, run in the open air

Street science demonstrations, water rockets, rubber-band cars and compressed air vehicles — a whole week that ends in a school-wide practical competition.

Principal, Magong Elementary School

From the principal

“Teach children to learn, to live, and to love others.”

Education, at its heart, is about helping a person become a person. Children are the centre of what we do; teachers are the backbone that holds it up.

My hope for Magong Elementary is simple. I want a school with excellent administration, a rich curriculum and professional teachers — and a school where care reaches everyone, communication is easy, and every child's own particular talent is given room to grow.
